The men who come to our aesthetic clinic in Accra almost never open with the word "aesthetics". They open with a problem. The forehead that makes them look angry on video calls. The jawline that has softened since their thirties. The beard that grows in patches no oil has fixed. The shirts that show sweat before the meeting starts. The marks along the neck from twenty years of razor bumps. What they want is for the problem to go away, and for nobody at the office to be able to say why they look better.
That last part shapes everything we do for men. The brief is almost always the same — look rested, not different — and the treatments that serve it are not simply women's treatments in a different waiting room. Muscles, skin, hair and priorities all differ, and so does the work.
Why men's treatment is its own discipline
Male facial muscles are generally larger and stronger, the brow sits lower and flatter, the skin is thicker and oilier, and the beard changes both the skin underneath it and what can be done to it. Ageing tends to show as a heavier, sterner face rather than fine lines. Treatment that ignores this — feminine brow arches, over-softened features, a jaw contoured for a different face — is the reason some men look "done" after aesthetic work, and it is exactly what we avoid. Our full men's aesthetics menu is built around that principle.
The tired, stern face
The most common request by a distance. Deep frown lines and forehead creases read as anger or exhaustion even when you feel neither, and once colleagues have noticed, you notice too.
Men's Botox softens those lines while keeping the face recognisably yours. Dosing is where it differs: stronger muscles need more product for the same effect, and the placement has to respect a masculine brow — a flat, low brow that is lifted or arched by careless injection looks feminine and surprised. The goal is reduced movement, not none; you should still be able to frown at Accra traffic. The appointment takes about fifteen minutes, there is no downtime, results settle over five to fourteen days and last three to four months. The same treatment relieves jaw clenching and teeth grinding, which many men carry without realising until the tension headaches stop. Our guide to Botox in Ghana covers safety, product sourcing and the myths in full.
Tired eyes are a related complaint, and not every tired eye is a Botox case — hollowing, skin texture and sun damage each need something different, and the consultation sorts out which.
Jawline definition
A soft or receding jawline is the second most common request. Jawline enhancement uses dermal filler placed along the jawbone and chin to build definition and projection. The design comes first: the jaw is planned against chin, neck and cheek proportions, and because a masculine jaw is wider and squarer, the mapping differs from the start. Placement takes about thirty minutes, results are visible immediately and refine over two weeks, and structural filler typically holds for twelve to eighteen months. Where a soft double chin blurs the line, facial fat dissolving can be combined for the complete profile. Hyaluronic-acid filler can also be dissolved, which matters to anyone cautious about a first treatment.
Razor bumps, scarring and texture
For men with coarse, curly beard hair, the shaving cycle is brutal: each ingrown hair is a small inflammation, each inflammation leaves a dark mark or a raised bump, and daily shaving restarts it before yesterday's marks can fade. Over years this leaves the jaw and neck peppered with pigmentation and pitted scarring — and, in those prone to it, keloids, which we wrote about in our guide to keloids.
Men's skin resurfacing is fractional CO2 laser calibrated for thicker, oilier, beard-bearing skin. It treats the accumulated scarring, pigment, enlarged pores and rough texture that years of the cycle leave behind. Expect five to seven days of redness and flaking, no shaving until the skin has healed, and results that keep building for weeks as collagen rebuilds; many concerns improve markedly after one session, and deeper scarring benefits from a short series. On darker skin tones, laser settings are everything — this is where Amanda's decades of experience decide whether the outcome is smoother skin or a new pigment problem.
The bumps themselves must be calmed before resurfacing, not after. Shaving with the grain, never shaving over active bumps and, where necessary, reducing how often you shave is part of every plan.
Patchy beards
A beard that will not fill in has causes — genetics, scarring from old bumps, patches of alopecia. Beard restoration starts by separating what can be encouraged to regrow, using stimulation protocols and micro-needling of the follicle zones, from what artistry should complete. Where follicles are simply absent, micropigmentation places tiny points of colour-matched pigment that mimic stubble density, blending gaps and scars into a fuller, more even line.
The limits deserve saying plainly. Micropigmentation creates the look of stubble, not hair that grows, so it suits a close-cropped beard far better than a long one. It is not placed over infected follicles, inflamed skin or unhealed scars, and anyone who keloids easily is patch-tested and assessed before pigment goes anywhere near the jaw. Results are long-lasting, softening gradually over years, with a refresh available when needed.
Sweat control
Excessive sweating is a medical nuisance that men in Accra's humidity live with quietly, and it has one of the most reliable answers in aesthetic medicine. Hyperhidrosis treatment uses a grid of tiny injections across the underarms, palms or soles to switch overactive sweat glands down. The appointment takes twenty to thirty minutes with numbing available, sweating reduces markedly within one to two weeks, and the effect typically lasts several months — often around six, sometimes longer — before it is repeated. The injections act locally, so you do not sweat more elsewhere to compensate. When palms are treated, a brief reduction in grip strength is possible and passes.
Recovery for athletes and travellers
Not everything men ask for is about how they look. Gym athletes pushing volume, runners in competition blocks and frequent travellers arriving off overnight flights into Accra's heat ask for recovery. Athletic recovery IVs deliver fluid, electrolytes, amino support and micronutrients at full absorption, after a short health screen, over forty-five to sixty minutes. They are a support for training and travel, not a substitute for sleep, food or medical care, and we will say so if what you describe needs a doctor rather than a drip.
Discretion and downtime
Men plan aesthetics around a work calendar, and we plan with them. Botox and hyperhidrosis treatment have no downtime and fit into a lunch break. Jawline filler carries a few days of possible swelling or bruising that a weekend usually covers. Resurfacing needs about a week of visible flaking, so we time it around travel, presentations and events — a Friday session before a quiet week is the usual pattern. Appointments are private, and discretion is absolute.
Permanent make-up exists for men too
It rarely occurs to men that permanent make-up is relevant to them, because the name suggests otherwise. In practice men's permanent make-up is invisible when done properly: rebuilding thinning brows with strokes matched to natural growth, restoring density along a receding hairline, and camouflaging scars a man would rather not explain. The work is designed conservatively — under-promised on paper, over-delivered once healed — and layered gradually so that nothing ever looks drawn on.
Who should wait or reconsider
Men on blood thinners need medical clearance before injectables, threads or pigment. Active skin infection, uncontrolled medical conditions and certain neuromuscular conditions rule treatments out. Anyone hoping to look like a different person, rather than a rested version of himself, will get an honest conversation rather than a booking.
What to expect at our clinic
A consultation with Amanda comes first — history, medications, how your skin has healed before, and what you actually want changed. Most men leave with a short, sequenced plan rather than a long menu: one or two treatments that solve the problem they came with, timed around their diary. Prices are published on each treatment page, and combined plans are quoted clearly before anything starts.
Will people be able to tell?
If it is done well, no — and that is the whole brief. Men's treatment is dosed and designed for "slept well", never "had work done". Colleagues tend to ask whether you have been on holiday.
Does Botox last as long on men?
Sometimes slightly less, because larger, stronger muscles can work through the effect faster — which is why dosing is adjusted rather than copied from a female protocol. Three to four months is the realistic expectation, often a little longer with regular treatment.
Is any of this safe on darker skin?
Injectables work beneath the skin and carry no pigmentation risk. Laser and pigment work carry real risks on darker skin tones if handled carelessly, and very low risk in experienced hands with conservative settings — which is what our clinic has spent decades refining.
